In the heart of Madrid, a little apartment has shown the world what the canny layering of ceramic parquetry and a bit of innovation can do to effectively double the sense of available space.

‘Tous les Jours’ is a well-known bakery franchise company in Korea and these were taken at one location nearby DaeHak-Ro, so-called ‘the broadway of Asia’, where about 100 theatres for plays and shows fill the whole district. Those lightbulbs arranged inside the bottomless glass box were the first thing that caught my eyes — pretty neat!

Sydney architects Chenchow Little took on the task of modernising a Victorian terrace and designed an award-winner where skylights are the highlight. Concrete steps lead up to a half level from the central courtyard to the front living room where sliding glass doors open fully to the outdoors. A wall painted in Bristol Heritage ‘Tyntynder’ is a nod to the terrace home’s Victorian origin.

Seems like the period of unstability and uncertainty has almost ended - what a gradual process! - and is about to be left behind in the year 2011. Never to be regretted.
After all, those cliché and cheesy lines of wisdom are truly, true. And I find myself, after these emotional storms, saying the more or less the same thing. This year has really given me time to reposition myself.
This week, despite my initial pact with myself not to have another cup of coffee at Starbucks at least during my stay in Korea (where there are numerous individual cafés), yet my old coffee instinct led me to one location near Gangnam station. I ordered my ‘오늘의 커피’ (coffee of the day) and spent some time with the FRAME magazine. Simply amazing!!
I want to post some websites of the firms whose portfolio inspired me.

Quotes from the linked TED speech:
”if human need is the place to start, and prototyping, a vehicle for progress, then there are also some questions to ask about the destination. Instead of seeing its primary objective as consumption, design thinking is beginning to explore the potential of participation — the shift from a passive relationship between consumer and producer to the active engagement of everyone in experiences that are meaningful, productive and profitable.”
”I’d like to believe that design thinking actually can make a difference, that it can help create new ideas and new innovations, beyond the latest High Street products. To do that I think we have to take a more expansive view of design, more like Brunel, less a domain of a professional priesthood. And the first step is to start asking the right questions.”

I always love - yes, always - the combination of concrete and wood. I am pleased to discover this interior firm located in Mapo-gu (my hometown!), Seoul, South Korea, because their portfolio floods with the types of spaces I enjoy looking at, walking into and staying for a little while. I particularly like this clothing shop — the palette is very modern, with the abstract gray floor giving it a more unique look. Another clever detail in this design is a nice interface between white and wood created on the shelf behind the counter, creating a balance with the wall beside it (photo not shown)
After spending hours walking around the Hongdae District (an area around the Hongik University, a renowned arts & design school in Seoul), I have come to realize something like this is a popular trend look in S.Korea currently. If you would like to explore more of Doov’s designs, click here!
I start this blog as a way of expressing another passion I am very eager to cultivate. As a cell & molecular bio major, it is an adventure for me to delve into the realm of interior design. ‘SongfulSpace’ is a humble title to convey something that is much bigger & richer — the spaces that make one feel very special, which are not only visually-pleasing, but also mindfully planned.
Determined to discover such interiors along the journey, I hope that this blog will not only be my personal bien-aimé with thoughts, photos, music and inspirations, but yours as well.
Allons-y!
